Winooski— Bob Maritano of Winooski was recognized by Governor Douglas Saturday for his “Outstanding Community Service” to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf in 2009. Mr. Maritano logged hundreds of hours coordinating food drives, speaking at schools and soliciting donations for the state’s largest direct service hunger relief agency in Vermont.
According to Food Shelf officials Mr. Maritano has spent more than 15 years as a volunteer in the fight against hunger. “He has done everything at our organization from picking up food to being Board Chair”, said spokesperson Rachel Moss. According to Moss, “volunteers who dedicate this amount of time and energy can help raise awareness as well as much needed food donations”.
The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf had more than 500 volunteers work at the organization last year. For more information please call 658-7939 or visit www.feedingchittenden.org.
