Pumpkin Regatta Food Drive
Burlington—Hunger advocates are asking the public to bring non perishable food items to the Pumpkin Regatta this Sunday, October 9 at the Burlington Waterfront from 10-3pm. The festival schedule includes teams of people racing hollowed out pumpkins on Lake Champlain as well as fun activities for families including face painting, bounce castles, pie eating contests and a pet costume contest. The event is a fundraiser for a youth leadership program of Linking Learning to Life but is also a food drive for the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf.
According to Chittenden Food Shelf Director Rob Meehan, “we are hoping that festival organizers see a great turnout and we want to remind families to bring non perishable food items to help feed needy families and children.” Meehan says it’s the generosity of Vermonters that sustain the hunger relief efforts throughout Chittenden County. The Food Shelf truck will be on site at the Pumpkin Regatta entrance to accept donations on Sunday.
Since 1974 the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf has been a vital emergency food resource in Chittenden County for families lacking adequate food supply.
