This month the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf kicks off food drive season. So far over forty groups have contacted CEFS to hold food drives which benefit Chittenden county’s low income residents.

Senator Bernie Sanders (invited) will address the first graduating class of Community Kitchen in Burlington, a program of the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf (CEFS) and the Vermont Foodbank.

Mayor Bob Kiss (invited) will announce the largest single-day food drive organized annually by the National Association of Letter Carriers at a press conference at the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf at 228 North Winooski Ave. in Burlington, this Wednesday, May 6th at 11:00am.

Bob Maritano of Winooski was recognized by Governor Douglas Saturday for his “Outstanding Community Service” to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf in 2009.

On April 30th, the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf is hosting a community dinner for all the participants in the Homebound Delivery program, their friends and families and our dedicated volunteers.

The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf urgently needs to raise $10,000 to replace a broken commercial dishwasher at the state’s largest direct service hunger organization.

Hunger activist Robert Egger founded DC Central Kitchen in 1989 to provide a comprehensive solution to poverty, hunger and homelessness. Egger pioneered the Culinary Job Training program to equip unemployed and underemployed men and women with the life and professional skills needed to have a successful career in the food service industry.

This Thursday, April 16th at 1:00pm Robert Egger will speak to the students of Burlington’s Community Kitchen, a program of the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf and the Vermont Foodbank.

A nationwide program that addresses the root causes of unemployment, poverty and hunger has recently started in Burlington. The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf (CEFS) and the Vermont Foodbank are partnering to launch Community Kitchen.

Each year Northfield Savings Bank brings together local businesses and community leaders to raise money and awareness about hunger in Chittenden County. This year we are honoring Rice Lumber and Bob Maritano for making a difference in our community.
