FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mayor Bob Kiss (invited) will announce the largest single-day food drive organized annually by the National Association of Letter Carriers at a press conference at the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf at 228 North Winooski Ave. in Burlington, this Wednesday, May 6th at 11:00am.
Postmaster Mark Lemnah and Letter Carrier Sandra Sonntag will also be on hand to describe this year’s food drive which will be held on Saturday, May 9th.
All households can leave a donation of non-perishable food by their mailbox on Saturday morning. Letter carriers will be on hand to deliver mail and collect food donations throughout Chittenden County.
This food drive couldn’t come at a better time, according to Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf director Rob Meehan. “Food donations are down across the board,” said Meehan. “This is especially critical in today’s economy where more people than ever are in need of our assistance. We are asking people across Chittenden County to leave food for their postal worker to collect on Saturday.”
