IBM employees gives Food Shelf a boost
Burlington, Vermont – November 4, 2011
IBM employees have donated thousands of pounds of food to help feed people in need.
They delivered 7-thousand pounds to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf Friday. IBM employees contributed to 11 area charities this year. The food drive is part of IBM’s annual Employee Charitable Contribution Campaign, a fundraising effort that offers employees the opportunity to contribute to non-profit charities.
“From an IBM employee perspective the nice thing is that we get to be able to contribute to something in our communities outside of what we do for IBM. We really appreciate the time to be able to do that and then be able to work with people, like here at the food shelf,” said Scott Lawrence, the food drive’s organizer.
Food Shelf officials say overall contributions are down this year, possibly due in part to what they describe as Tropical Storm Irene “burnout.”
