It’ll be a good Thanksgiving for more than 3,000 families who needed help dressing the table this year.
The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf surpassed its goal and by a wide margin — of collecting 2,700 donated turkeys. By Tuesday evening, 3,212 turkeys had been donated by individuals and businesses.
In 2009, the food shelf collected 2,706 turkeys, said Rob Meehan, director of the agency. He said the food shelf has seen a 20 percent increase in the number of people seeking food since 2007.
