The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf has seen a record number of people this summer.
Director Rob Meehan says the program has fed about 5,000 people every month since the start of summer.
In previous years, Meehan says when the weather gets warmer, they’ve actually seen a drop in the number of people needing their assistance, but that’s not the case anymore.
Meehan says the food shelf has seen more and more working families requesting assistance.
“We’re seeing working families coming to the food shelf because what their pay is, is not making ends meet,” said Meehan.
As the demand for non-perishable food increases, so does the need for volunteers. If you’d like to donate food or your time you can visit the Chittenden County Emergency Food Shelf website: www.feedingchittenden.org.
